Cybernetic Tradition

In 1947 it was the term coined by Norbert Wierner. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining order and assuming control of the communication process. In addition to weiner’s take, Communications researcher, Claude Shannon developed a mathematical Model of communication which also was an influential source to the conceptualization of this, ‘Cybernetic Tradition.’

Both theorist recognized ‘noise’ as an ‘enemy’ to communication and because they understood its potential to significantly alter a receiver’s reception of a message by distorting the sender intention, this tradition seeks to analyze and find a solution to lessen the interference of noise in the communication process.

The cybernetic Tradition is made up of three components

1.) The message and its intent (the goal)

2.) The message’s intent versus the message actually sent

3.) The feedback influenced by the message sent- it determines if the intent of the message was understood.
